“We are looking to create a following predicated on re-introducing heavy music to the depths of intellect, emotion, and soul, as an experiential necessity.”

triangulate the mind’s eye

What happened to the moments in time when music had the capability to transcend our ordinary conscious awareness? Where it permeates beneath the veil and connects you with the synchronistic narrative of your interior life? An experience that provides you with meaning and mystic, peak states where we symbiotically fuse our experience beyond our 5 senses into a unified non-dualistic realm where the light and dark confront the true self. We can integrate or perish. We can run or we can go deeper and uncover the mysteries of the depths of our unconscious and face the shadow that exists in all of us. Can a band be a platform for the listener to transmute their unhealed traumas, interpret their archetypal dreams that serve as guides, infuse light when we are at the bottom of a dark well, when hope feels like an infinite tunnel of black? Can a band be an ocean of cultivation and interpretation that reaches for those damaged and affected by the mentally ill, the psychopaths and narcissists that walk among us, undetected emotionally destroying lives without remorse, without empathy, without a soul? Can this absence be an entry point for dark forces, dark energy to engulf, to open portals and passages for paranormal experiences? Do we let these ghosts pass through or do we confront them? Do we engage the metaphysical mysteries that defy our cognition or do we remain anchored to fear and skepticism?

Light Creates Shadow is a band attempting to bridge the gap in the psyche, emotions and heart, to help discover the light/dark origins and enable you journey through confrontation, self-discovery and realization. Our songs are not a guarantee but an invitation. We feel there is an absence and misuse of depth within the art form as a whole. We are on a mission to uncover and illuminate the path if the listener wants to embark. If you are open, the experience will subconsciously unfold and time will appear non-linear, just like your dreams. Within your dreams you will find the doorway that once unlocked, will allow you to awake… forever.

Biography

Artistic post metal band, Light Creates Shadow, will release their 3rd full length, Ghosts pass through, running from the body, on 07/01/2022. Recorded at Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard’s Studio Litho in Seattle WA, it was produced, engineered, and mixed by Matt Bayles (Mastodon, Isis, Russian Circles, Deftones, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden). Mastered by Ed Brooks (Mastodon, Caspian, Isis, Pearl Jam).

Ghosts… is an album born from the organic and intuitive connection between guitarist/vocalist Marc Changnon, bassist Jered Johnson and drummer Adam Young. After releasing a lo-fi acoustic album, 2 Windows in 2011 and 2015’s post rock/shoegaze leaning, Emerge From The Illusion, LCS reformed with a new lineup and progressed into an artistic and stylistic rebirth with Ghosts… Combining progressive dynamics, uniquely delivered vocals, channeled lyrics, intricately woven passages that power through unorthodox arrangements culminating into epic walls of sound. This leads to the construction of a profound emotional and psychological journey. The alchemy was enough to catch the attention of famed producer Matt Bayles. Completed in 10 intensely focused 12-hour days in May of 2021, the rigor pushed everyone involved to exhaustion, but the belief that they were creating something special was the intrinsic motivation needed to complete the record.

Light Creates Shadow utilize conceptual frameworks to take the listener on an interior journey into the creative process, psyche, and a confrontation with the Shadow, buried deep in the unconscious mind. This alchemical mixture offers the audience a blank canvas to paint their own rendering of interpretation upon. LCS have positioned themselves to have breakthrough potential with an innovative concept, genre defining sound, and enigmatic live performance that engages the audience in a new way.

“We believe music that explores the depths of what is possible between audience and artist, should be transparent about its intentions,” explains Changnon. “To provide context, I’m inferring that if a band are conduits for channeled meaning, healing and collective synchronicity, then that same transference is innately present in the connection with the listener. We are going to explore this synchronistic relationship through a companion interactive web experience that will intrigue even the most hardened skeptics. Opening oneself up in this way also beckons the question, are we then vulnerable to the energies of spirits lost in the malice of lives unlived, gone wrong? Or maybe these energies are omitted from people close to you that project false selves, live through low vibrations and cause a repetitive, cyclical pattern of trauma that results in a psychical death for those lost in the dissonance. Personally, this album is documentation of my survival of that experience. It ended who I once was and forced me to retrieve the lost parts, confront my shadow and experience a psycho-spiritual rebirth.”

Light Creates Shadow draw influences from artists such as; TOOL, Pink Floyd, Mastodon, Isis, Emma Ruth Rundle, The Smashing Pumpkins and Sunny Day Real Estate to name a few. But LCS believe they are establishing their own path and feel their sound is authentically their own.

“I believe that art is at its peak when you are forced to be an active participant in the exchange. This is the proposition we are extending to the listener. Not everyone is going to lean in, but for those that do, when you find us, we will share in something special…together.”

“The Collective Synchronicity of Integration”

This project is a companion, interactive online experience that will provide the listener a new paradigm to explore the songs on Ghosts… through a narrative mapping that requires the listener to take a deep dive into their psyche, creating their own visualizations and imagination. Following paths through the mind while being guided by archetypes and the “5 Trinities of Polyvalence”, users will be prompted to answer questions that uncover the interconnections and mysteries within the album and the exploration of consciousness expansion that will lead to a reinterpretation of the album based on their input. This psychological, sociological experiment will attempt to tap into the collective unconscious, the synchronistic relationship between the music and the listeners experience within it.
